The sequel to Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial debut Lucifer, starring Mohanlal, officially began filming on Thursday, 5th October, four years after the release of Lucifer. The shoot commenced with a puja ceremony attended by Prithviraj, Mohanlal, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and writer Murali Gopy. The team unveiled the first-look poster on November 11, 2023. The first schedule of the shoot in Ladakh has been completed, and the second schedule is planned for January 2024 in the USA and UK. Empuraan narrates Khureshi-Ab'ram's story and the events leading him there. Mohanlal returns to take on the lead role in the upcoming film. Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran will also be reprising their roles from the original movie. Empuraan is set to be a Pan-India film, releasing not only in Malayalam but also in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. The project is a collaborative effort of Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca Productions and Prithviraj Productions.
